A Day in Wales
Today was quite different than anything we have done so far. It started off by getting on our own bus and driving two hours in Wales, which is absolutely beautiful by the way. We got out at Tintern Abby, which is basically just the ruins of an old Abby, but it was one of the most peaceful places I have been to in my life. It is located in a tiny little village with the cutest houses. Our group went for a hike to a look out point that lets you see out over the abby and the river below, however I stopped to take some pictures and got separated from the group. Rather than wander around by myself and end up lost, I decided to just stay in the town and wait for everyone to return. I got myself some tea and just relaxed in the shade for a few hours by myself until everyone returned and we had lunch together.
After lunch we explored the ruins. Let me tell you it has been so hot here, it is humid and I did not pack enough clothes for this kind of weather, but the Abby was shaded and breezy and wonderful. It was quiet and cool, we listened to a little bit of history from our professors and I took a little nap in the grass.
On our way back, we stopped at a castle that was so fun to explore. It looks out on the river below and made me wonder what it would have been like to live here, the huge building looking out at everything below.
Looking at all these old buildings and places, and wondering what life was like for the people that spent time in them has got me wondering about what people will say about us when we are gone. What buildings and places will they commemorate for us? What will they tell their children about us?
My day in Wales was restful and well needed at that. Tomorrow we pack up and head for Scottland.
Talk to you soon! Cheers!
