Work Update

Hey Ya’ll! Happy Thanksgiving.

I realized the other day that I really haven’t posted about what i am practically doing here. So here is just a little update.

I am doing a combination of school work and assignments that were previously assigned to me by teachers when I was in classes in Kenya and a bit of volunteer work. I have a few projects that I am working on here at the University.

The first one is creating them a website that is practical for their students, faculty, and prospective students to use. That has been the biggest job, trying to gather content is a nightmare but it is slowly happening.. really slowly.

The second things is creating them some social media platforms for them to do some social media marketing. Both of these projects I have been trying to work with students to empower them to take initiative and give them some experience that they can put on their resumes. The school has a business department and they have a lot of marketing students but they don’t empower them to do anything practical so that is what I have been trying to do.

Another thing that my team of Masters students and I have been trying to work on is empowering and training students to start student clubs. They have no extra curricular activities at this University and the students are just plum bored. I have never met a group of students that are so uninvolved in their school and their personal growth. They go to class and then sit around and they cause a lot of trouble because they are board. So our goal is to teach them some leadership skills and get them to start clubs on their own in various areas that they can grow as individuals and academically.

We are also helping the school get ready for accreditation, running some evaluations of their monitoring and evaluating methods that they provide for themselves and helping them see where they are at and how they can continue to grow and improve.

If we are being honest I feel like I have not really accomplished much in my four weeks here, I feel like I have so much more to offer. The next three weeks are going to be quite busy as we try to finish the rest of our assignments and run a bunch of training sessions for students. I am excited about it though, it should be fun.

The next step is getting an internship. I have applied to KIVA in Portland, and World Vision in Federal Way, if anyone has any connections please let me know.

Hopefully I will see you all at Christmas!

Cheers!
