Circular Living
Have you been in a book store lately?
The most popular books that are all out on display are all on anxiety and peaceful living and how to battle the busyness we find ourselves in. As there are always the types of books I have gravitated toward and am interested in, they used to be harder to find, but now they are front and center on all the displays. What does that tell us about our society?
We are obviously working ourselves so hard that we are now looking for ways to dig ourselves out and fix the anxiety we have found ourselves in. Self-care and mental illness and simple living are almost becoming a fad, and are causing talk in our society. More and more people are buying in and more and more people are talking about it.
What does it look like to be healthy and is it something we are going to adopt for a few weeks, a month, or are we making life changes? I find so many people are looking for ways to better their lives, grow themselves, and that is great but that is so self focused. Now don't get me wrong, I truly believe you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others, but I also believe our focus in life shouldn't be what we can gain or what we can get out of various situations.
I truly believe that we need to focus on Jesus and find our peace and worth in him. We need to follow his path for our lives and let him lead us and our lives. Once we spend the time with him and have found our peace and self worth in Jesus we can then go out and work on bettering and blessing the lives of those around us. It is important to focus on others and helping and growing them, point them to Jesus to find their own comfort and self worth, it should be a cycle always coming around again to Jesus.
Working on ourselves, and reading books, and living simply, are amazing and great things. However, it should be centered around Jesus. You can do all these things to be good stewards, and take care of the resources God has given you, but you can only help yourself so much before those methods will once again fail you leaving you alone in your pit of anxiety all over again.
Go get out of the bubble you have created that is your life. Run into people you don't normally see. I don't care if that means traveling, or walking down the street but hang out with people that are different from you, that have different lifestyles, opinions, and God forbid political views, learn from each other and point each other to God.
